Pam Chowhan

Biography

Born in India, Pam is a versatile musician, composer and arranger whose career bridges the worlds of classical, world, electronic and rock music. She studied music at Cambridge University and piano at the Royal College of Music with Yu Chun Yee, before completing her keyboard studies with Sulamita Aronovsky at the Royal Northern College of Music.

Her eclectic musical journey has seen her perform and record with an extraordinary range of artists, including Julian Lloyd Webber, Jiaxin Lloyd Webber, Lesley Garrett, Michael Ball, Catrin Finch, Pete Lockett, Adrian Sherwood, Skip McDonald, Steve Sidelnyk, Doug Wimbish and Youth, alongside collaborations spanning Asian fusion, dub, electronica and contemporary classical music. Her live performances have taken her to prestigious venues and international festivals including the Sud Ouest Festival, Festival Vinha D’Areia, the Holders Festival in Barbados, the Royal Albert Hall and the Hanoi Opera House. She has toured extensively with Julian and Jiaxin Lloyd Webber, appearing in acclaimed productions including A Tale of Two Cellos and An Evening with Julian Lloyd Webber.

Alongside performing, Pam has built a distinguished reputation as an arranger and composer, creating works for publishers including Boosey & Hawkes and contributing arrangements and compositions performed by the Nash Ensemble, the BBC Concert Orchestra and the RPO. Her commissions include works for the innovative microtonal Fluid Piano, premiered at its launch at the Southbank Centre.

Pam also explores darker, more experimental musical landscapes through her collaboration with Tracie Law in the dark synth rock / electro project Symphony of Pain, whose albums Hydeology and Virology fuse cinematic melody with heavy rock influences. Their latest venture, Elektrikology, combines synth-driven electronics with electric violin to create a bold contemporary sound.

Her recording work further reflects her genre-defying creativity, from the electro-acoustic duo Amici Prism with master percussionist Pete Lockett, to remix projects for the MELT2000 label and performances with the Sanscapes Bushmen of the Kalahari project.
